A person who contaminated sweets with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight youngsters and one adult experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The man played a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the situation, for good reason.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel said objects including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that evening - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
